SEMESTER-LONG OFF-CAMPUS STUDY

For students considering Advanced Study in Classical Studies or Mediterranean Archaeology, the following two most highly-regarded programs offer immersive, field trip-based learning. [Tier #] indicates DePauw’s cost policy.

  • College Year in Athens (CYA): The prime program for studying ancient Greece and the Classics (including Greek and Latin), but with a broad array of liberal arts courses available. CYA also offers a special financial scholarship reserved for DePauw students. [Tier 3]
  • The Centro: Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome. The foremost program for students who want to learn about ancient Rome and Italy, and continue their Greek or Latin. [Tier 4]

For students interested in a more general experience in the Mediterranean world:

  • The Umbra Institute: ISI Perugia. Known for its Italian, food studies, and sustainability/environment programs, with internship and community engagement opportunities. Located in the gorgeous hill-top Umbrian university-town of Perugia. [Tier 2]
  • UGA – Cortona: known for its studio art and Italian programs, as well as general studies, set in a Tuscan hill-top town. [Tier 4]
  • Temple University – Rome: a range of liberal arts studies, including visual arts, architecture, Italian studies, and business offerings. [Tier 3]
  • The American College of Thessalokini (ACT): broad liberal arts and business offerings in this vibrant northern Greek city. [Tier 1]
